What DO you want?

 [As we march toward the 2024 elections I find that I need to vent on occasion. I look forward to comments!]

Dear Republicans,

You seem to want Trump for president again. But what do you WANT? In 2020 your party, for the first time in history, ran a presidential campaign with no platform. No plan. No goals for the country. No promises.  Just “Vote for Me!” - pure hucksterism. Does that not concern you? Thinking there is a guy who just has all the answers, no matter what, is dangerous to the democracy. It tells the rest of the country and the rest of the world that the Republican Party has lost its vision.

To my memory, Republicans used to be the party of less government, conservative spending, lower the debt, support the military party. Now you seem to be afraid of EVERYTHING. You seem to be afraid of gay people, trans people, our own history, books in general, immigrants. Anyone different from you is a threat. Party of less government? You are into peoples’ lives in very personal ways! What to read. What women can do with their bodies. What men can wear! What our children can read. What happened to trusting the individual to make intelligent choices about their kids, their wardrobe, and their bodies?

I posit this: Republican Party leadership doesn’t really care about any of that. Who would? None of that can affect another’s life in any direct way. For example, if a women living in Portland, Oregon, makes the tough decision to get an abortion, how does that affect you down in Boca Del Vista, Florida?  But, by convincing your party members that there is a THREAT to their very way of life by these gays, trans, abortionists, immigrants, and history books then you get, wait for it . . .VOTES! Be afraid people. Be very afraid. If you don’t vote for us your schools will allow kids to learn of such things as the Tulsa Massacre, Trail of Tears, the Civil War, and slavery. They might even be allowed to read To Kill a Mockingbird for Christ’s sake!

Pandering fear turns out to be a great way to get votes and you had your own outlet, Fox News, to help you spread the fear. But when you just pander fear how does that help you actually govern. How does it help the working guy? When you ban books how does that help create jobs or housing. When you outlaw trans people how does that fix the roads? When you outright deny our own history how does that improve our environment? Look, there are REAL problems out there. You are elected to office to RUN stuff. To run the government for the people. Let the historians take care of history. Let parents decide what their kids read. Let teachers assign what they’ve been trained to assign. Just run the country and get some smart people on board (not just your sycophants) to help solve problems!


Let’s turn this around. You’ve been living in the US of A for the last 3 years under the Biden presidency. How has your life gone? Is the stock market doing ok? Is unemployment reasonable? Are you free to do as you wish? What is there in the last 4 years that has affected you directly or has frightened you that makes you want a despicable human like Trump for president? Is Biden perfect? I don’t think so. I’m not happy about the drilling in Alaska. My point is I don’t think he’s perfect or has all the answers. I don’t think anyone has all the answers. I just think Biden is well read and is reasonable. Ask your guy what he’s read lately (although he’ll probably lie about it.) Was he reasonable about Covid when he said it would just ‘go away’?

So, in the whole good old U S of A the very best guy you can come up with to defeat Biden is an already lost once, loser like Trump? The man who led a rally to overthrow the government on Jan 6? Really? If you could come up with a guy with real vision, a real plan true to real conservative ideals, hell, you might even get my vote! Think about it.
