Well, Donald at least we’ll always have Paris
Or not.
Once again Trump as dropped US out of the Paris Climate Accord. He tried this once before but then there was a 4 year wait before you could be officially dropped so he just forgot about it as he tends to do.
Now there is only a one year wait to be officially dropped. Interestingly, his announcement doesn’t even mention Paris. He has started something called, “Putting America First in the Climate Agreements”. (PAFCA?) It’s not clear what this even means or what the plans are. He does say that his Putting America first blah, blah, blah … will include, “Make America affordable and energy dominant again," including "by reviewing for rescission all regulations that impose undue burdens on energy production and use. Well that’s pretty clear. Sounds like support for oil and gas to me.
There are agreements in the Paris accord that provide for money from the richer countries to help poorer countries do their part in the climate challenge. These are gentleman agreements and there is no power to impose penalties if a country doesn’t pay. I’m guessing we already stopped paying. He probably doesn’t want money going to places where there are hoards of brown people.
But even the threat of dropping out of Paris back in 2016 caused other nations to just up their commitment and contributions. That will happen again. Also, the threat back in 2016 caused many states to impose their own climate regulations regarding air quality, emissions, etc.
My take - Ultimately the world will slowly but surely solve and reverse this climate calamity that we are facing. There’s no other choice. It’s solve the problem or die. All this MAGA bullshit ends up just making America the big losers in the world community.
Well, at least we'll be in good company. Here's a list of all the countries who have NOT signed on to the French Accord:
Libya
Yemen
Iran
United States
Nice group to hang with!
Such an a-hole! Too bad he's not a pack a day smoker like many people in Paris used to be Then we'd have something to hope for. (And thanks. There are facts in here I didn't know).
ReplyDeleteJust watched a CNN special report on air safety that mentioned events where planes suddenly drop because of turbulence causing injuries and in one case death. Point of saying rising air temps overall promote these events. We can expect more as temps rise! We need these things talked about and acted upon!!
